How do you remember architecture being demolished?
This design project by Korean furniture designer, Subin Seol, focuses on preserving the heritage of demolished architecture. Seol's collection, made from salvaged handrails from Fawley Power Station, a South Hampshire landmark known for its distinctive brutalist aesthetic, comprises a dining chair and coffee table. The handrails' unique and irregular shape inspired Subin to create pieces that retain the original building's aesthetic, serving as tangible mementos to commemorate the demolished landmark.
This collection offers a tangible way to remember and honor the building, as opposed to the conventional approach of relying solely on photos and videos. Seol's design allows people to physically connect with and remember the iconic building through its actual elements. The design represents a unique approach to preserving architectural heritage, and its use of tangible objects serves as an innovative solution to keep memories of demolished architecture alive.
First presented in Fuorisalone 2023.
All Rights Reseved by Subin Seol, 2023.
